A New App Could Lead to The Earlier Detection of Pancreatic Cancer

As we know, the Pancreatic disease has one of the most exceedingly terrible guesses to some extent on the grounds that there are no obvious side effects to get a tumor before it spreads.

The researcher from the University of Washington researchers has come up with an application that could allow people to easily screen for pancreatic cancer through a smartphone selfie.

The developed application called BiliScreen and it uses computer vision algorithms, smartphone camera and machine learning tools to detect increased bilirubin levels in the white part of the eye.

The soonest symptom of pancreatic cancer is jaundice caused by a development of bilirubin in the blood. The capacity to recognize indications of jaundice when bilirubin levels are irrelevantly raised – however before they’re unmistakable to the bare eye – could empower an altogether new screening program for in danger people.

The lead author Alex Mariakakis said, “The problem with pancreatic cancer is that by the time you’re symptomatic, it’s frequently too late”. Alex Mariakakis is a doctoral student at the Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering. Further, Alex added, “The hope is that if people can do this simple test once a month — in the privacy of their own homes — some might catch the disease early enough to undergo treatment that could save their lives”.

The new app builds on prior work from the UW’s Ubiquitous Computing Lab. The UW’s Ubiquitous Computing Lab previously developed BiliCam which is a cell phone application that screens for newly conceived jaundice by taking a photo of an infant’s skin.

The new application is intended to be a simple to-utilize, a non-obtrusive instrument that could assist decide if somebody should counsel a specialist for additional testing.

The researchers next phase consist of testing the application for underlying conditions on a wider range of people, also continuing to make usability improvements.

A professor in the UW Medicine Department of Pediatrics, Dr. Jim Taylor said, “This relatively small initial study shows the technology has promised”. Dr. Jim Taylor added, “Our goal is to have more people who are unfortunate enough to get pancreatic cancer to be fortunate enough to catch it in time to have surgery that gives them a better chance of survival”.

Engineers Planning to Launch Smarter Robot Vacuum Cleaner

Experts from Fraunhofer-Institut für Arbeitswirtschaft und Organisation IAO are planning to launch smarter robot vacuum cleaner, a smart cleaning concept for smart offices. A smart robot will take care of all the cleaning jobs that been scheduled in Outlook. The engineers make use of IoT technology for developing the smart robot for smart offices.

With the help of IoT concept, the employee can use the intelligent booking system in Outlook to plan the automated services of a Robot Roomba 650 robot vacuum cleaner.

A smart robot makes and updates its schedule in real time by taking existing appointments as well as the appointments for rooms with higher need into account, and the robot offers alternative slots if one booking crashes with another.

Apart from that, it also evaluates when conference rooms have been reserved and autonomously works out the best way to ensure those rooms are always clean for the next meeting or event.

Roomba uses a virtual map to help the robot to find the way to reach room from its charging station but The main thing it needs a human to do is to open the entryway. Roomba returns to its charging station, after the completion of the work.

Once the first version of the smart robot has been successfully implemented, the experts are planning to expand the concept. In future, the smart robot being able to enter rooms without human help by means of program doors.

The Fraunhofer concept stated that the maps are saved locally and are used uniquely for the purpose of cleaning offices dissimilar to the latest Roomba models, where office map data is uploaded to the cloud and sold.

When the smart vacuum cleaner integrates with the ecosystem of the ENTOURAGE research then it removes platform dependency. The ENTOURAGE ecosystem allows cross-platform use of smart services so Roomba associate to communicate with speech assistants such as Apple’s Siri and Google’s Alexa.

Georgia Institute Engineer Invented Triboelectric Generator

When it comes to static electricity then it will be mildly painful, but in recent years’ experts have been working to generate small amounts of electricity cheaply as well as easily. Most of the static electricity is generated when two materials come in connection and between the connection electrons are traded. Once the material pulled separately, there tends to have to be an imbalance of electrons left over, and some of the atoms providing extra electrons than others. This disproportion generates an electric charge and the materials’ atoms desire to return to neutral charge which stated electricity has been created. From last few years’ experts have been looking for an innovative way to create the static electricity.

One of the inventors from Georgia Institute of Technology created triboelectric generators from a variety of materials such as fabrics, recycled soda bottles, ultra-thin polymers. The name of the inventor is Zhong Lin Wang. Zhong Lin Wang said, “You can utilize almost any material for this purpose”. He did this with the help of his team, they cut the polish paper into a rectangle shape and protected them in a thin layer of gold. Afterward, they gathered all shapes together and formed three-dimensional rhombus shapes, which can be folded up to be stored in a wallet, generate electricity when a person presses fingers on them. This procedure carries layers into contact. To increase the surface area for triboelectric generation Wang’s used a cut lattice structure inside the rhombus. John Kymissis, Columbia University’s electrical engineer praise for Wang’s clever design for an integrated energy generation. Mr. Wang said, “They can generate power and light up lights”. Further, he added, “All this good stuff they can do with a simple structure”.
